Chiropractic: How does it work?
The
function of chiropractic is not to heal disease or even
to relieve pain, although both of those effects may occur
in the course of chiropractic treatment. Ultimately, the
goal of chiropractic is to restore the body to its natural
state. Chiropractic works because we are a self healing,
self regulating organisms controlled by our central nervous
system. Improper position of the vertebra can impinge
on the nervous system and thus affect organs and tissues.
Health often returns when there is improvement in the
central nervous system. Chiropractic is an alternative
form of healthcare that is natural and noninvasive. It
does not involve the use of drugs or surgery. Chiropractic
is used as a preventative health to keep people healthy.
Chiropractic
is based on the fact that good health depends upon having
a fully functioning spine and nervous system. Chiropractors
achieve this by giving a series of adjustments to the
spine by reducing spinal misalignments pinching down on
the nervous system. It is a safe, natural, and affordable
form of healthcare.
Chiropractors
use their hands or a hand held instrument to make an adjustment
to the spine. When the spine is in misalignment, it can
interfere with the surrounding nerve or nerves. This is
called a subluxation. Subluxations can produce pain but
not always. Some people may carry subluxations with them
their whole life and this can deteriorate the spine. This
is why it is necessary to detect and correct these subluxations
before they can progress to a further stage such as arthritis,
pinched nerves, fusion, etc...
